Geography

Geography provides children with a powerful way of seeing how the world works and how they fit into it. The purpose of the Geography National Curriculum is to ‘inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.’ (Dfe, 2013, p.184).

Here at Weeton Primary School, we are lucky to have families from the local area, a variety of counties across the United Kingdom and from the wider world. Some of our children will have lived, or have connections to different countries around the world. We feel this gives us an opportunity to bring Geography to life by linking their personal, local experiences to global perspectives.

It is our intent to enable our children to make connections to worldwide communities; creating global citizens and empowering them to contribute to building a better world. We believe that Geography develops a spirit of enquiry that will grow and progress throughout their time with us. We strive to make cross-curricular links and facilitate whole school experiences.

We aim to bring Geographical skills and knowledge alive with field trips in each year group, alongside our exciting Forest School environment and orienteering course.
