COVID Curriculum Statement

Here at Weeton, we both endeavour and strive to provide each and every one of our children with a broad, balanced, exciting and engaging curriculum.

In light of the current climate, we want to make you aware that we have slightly adapted the delivery towards our regular curriculum coverage within our school, in order to better reflect and meet the needs of our children, in these uncertain times.

Whilst we remain committed to delivering exciting and engaging learning opportunities for all of our children, some of the curriculum foundation-subject coverage that would normally be delivered at this point in your child’s learning journey will be tailored back, with a greater emphasis being placed upon key Maths and English skills. We believe that in by doing this, we will have the opportunity to strengthen children’s prior learning, address any skill-gaps that may have been missed earlier on in the year, and ultimately, move our children’s learning in these key fundamental areas, forward.

In tailoring back and tweaking our curriculum coverage, we are allowing for a greater emphasis to be placed upon activities that we believe have a very positive impact on improving our children’s social and metal health and well-being.

There will be a weekly Forest School session for all children, where elements of the curriculum will be delivered through carefully planned activities, that involve improving children’s communication, problem-solving, exploration and risk-taking skills.  In addition to this, an increased focus is being placed upon Outdoor Physical Activity, in order to improve overall fitness and concentration levels, and provide children with opportunities to work within a team.  Regular Circle Time sessions within PSHE are also now more accessible, with the aim of providing  not only a dedicated time for children to discuss and share their thoughts, feelings and experiences with others, but more importantly to allow them the opportunity to reconnect with their friends and teachers, and ultimately, our Weeton Family.
